ENERGY AUDIT
WHAT IS A KO ANGOTTI ENERGY AUDIT?
A KO Angotti Building Performance Institute (BPI) certified energy audit is the first step in
assessing how much energy your home or business consumes and what measures you can take to make your living and work environment safer and more cost efficient.
WHAT DOES KO ANGOTTI TEST DURING AN ENERGY AUDIT?
KO Angotti BPI certified auditors apply a variety of techniques and equipment to a business or home energy audit in order to test energy efficiency, project savings,
recommend utility cost cutting methods, and create a more comfortable living or working environment. Our objective is to educate our clients about their utility systems and the impact those systems have on their health, safety, and monthly expenses.
KO Angotti tests large appliances such as furnaces, hot water heaters, and gas ovens/ranges to verify proper exhaustion of combustion gases as well as water temperature delivery and heating efficiency. A BPI certified energy auditor will confirm the safety and effectiveness of these appliances by exercising a series of diagnostic tests.
An inefficient appliance will cost you more money to maintain and it could compromise your health and safety through exposure to combustion gases. Diagnostic tools are used to evaluate energy efficiency and detect natural gas leaks and carbon monoxide levels in your home or office. Poorly operating combustion appliances produce carbon monoxide, which is a dangerous byproduct of natural gas and oil or propane. Exposure to low levels of carbon monoxide causes symptoms such as throbbing headaches, nausea, and shortness of breath; exposure to high levels can be fatal.
Beginning in the basement or crawlspace and working up to the attic, KO Angotti assesses all aspects of a home or building’s insulation including R-values, location, and overall condition. Insulation will impact your energy bills and comfort level during warm and cool months. As an example, KO Angotti projected one client would save up to 40% in HVAC bills simply by improving their insulation levels.
A certified BPI KO Angotti energy auditor will inspect for existing moisture damage, determine the source, and then present you with an abatement plan. Water vapor created by cooking, laundry, and bathing is easily exhausted outdoors through fans, but bulk moisture presents a greater challenge and can jeopardize the occupants’ health and the structural integrity of the building. The auditor conducts a visual inspection of the entire structure, including the exterior perimeter, and presents solutions to sustain durability and avoid further damage.
In summary, KO Angotti energy audits test the following.
- Heating and cooling system performance
- Carbon monoxide and natural gas leaks
- Existing insulation effectiveness
- Presence of moisture and potential damage
- Durability of existing building condition
